Video: HOW TO: Building a More Robust Cloud Encoder With FFMPEG & More

A great ffmpeg how-to from Jan Ozer followed by cloud deployment advice from RealEyes Media.

Starting from some of the basics of the ffmpeg command line, working up to HLS packaging, Jan Ozer offers advanced alternatives along side the familiar commands.
By taking control of your own encoding and packaging, you can greatly reduce cost and maintain high adaptability and agility to meet your needs now and in the future. When working with cloud encoding, there are several transcoding and packaging options, and the APIs for these options will change over time. David Hassoun and Jun Heider, from RealEyes Mediatalk talk about how to build a more dynamic cloud encoder that can use the best tool for a specific job by decoupling the tools from the core application, as well as how to mix and match multiple operations concurrently on a single encoding task. Operations include WebVTT and AAC sidecar manifests, DASH assets, metadata, video quality, and stream muxing/demuxing. This session covers some of the strategies we’ve used to handle dynamic cloud encoding and packaging for live and VOD delivery.

Webinar: Cloud Vs. On-Prem Video Processing and Delivery

Webinar: Jan 25th 2018, 11am PT/2pm ET/19:00 GMT

The cloud has transformed video processing and delivery, and it’s more robust, efficient, and flexible than ever. But on-premise solutions still have their place, as do hybrid solutions that offer the best of both worlds. Join this webinar for an insightful discussion and debate about the pros and cons of all three approaches.

Topics discussed will include the following:
• Capacity planning in the cloud vs. on-prem
• How the “cloud” relates to the physical infrastructure, and whether it matters
• Ability to move quickly with cloud deployments vs. long-term costs
• Specific functions that always benefit from being distributed or on-prem
• Considerations for high availability and disaster recovery
• Protecting against piracy
• Cloud vs. on-prem vs. hybrid—when and why each approach is called for

Webinar: Real world deployments – Making media operations work in the cloud

Webinar: November 2nd 2017 16:00 GMT
Three case studies from a post-production facility and two broadcasters provide the basis for a discussion about the adoption of cloud-based services and tools.

According to a recent IABM survey, some 85% of broadcast industry buyers plan to deploy cloud technology in the next three years.

Through a series of early adopter case studies, IBC365 will examine how vendors and technology suppliers have responded to this demand, whilst also looking at the changes broadcast and media businesses need to make in order to derive maximum benefit from the cloud.

Speakers:
Josh Derby, Vice President, Technology Development & Strategy, Discovery Communications
Tim Bertioli, Vice President, International Operations, VICE Media
