On-Demand Webinar: AI for Media and Entertainment

In this webinar, visual effects and digital production company Digital Domain will share their experience developing AI-based toolsets for applying deep learning to their content creation pipeline. AI is no longer just a research project but also a valuable technology that can accelerate labor-intensive tasks, giving time and control back to artists.

The webinar starts with a brief overview of deep learning and dive into examples of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), generative adversarial networks (GANS), and autoencoders. These examples will include flavors of neural networks useful for everything from face swapping and image denoising to character locomotion, facial animation, and texture creation.

By attending this webinar, you will:

  • Get a basic understanding of how deep learning works
  • Learn about research that can be applied to content creation
  • See examples of deep learning–based tools that improve artist efficiency
  • Hear about Digital Domain’s experience developing AI-based toolsets

Video: Producing 4K/UHD using IP and 12G-SDI

Held a couple of months before SMPTE 2110 was ratified at IBC, this panel discussion with Riedel, Evertz, EVS and Grass Valley looks at the state of SDI and IP: Which technologies are relevant now and which will win in the long run?

The conversation covers these topics and more:

  • 12G Vs 3G SDI
  • Versions of UHD SDI
  • When should a vendor implement IP?
  • Will the future include compression?
  • How do you handle variable latencies with compression?

With the first all-IP and 12G-SDI OB trucks beginning to hit the road, and an increasing number of broadcast centres implementing comprehensive IP-based or hybrid infrastructures, this discussion will focus on the issue of connectivity and whether it is advantageous to use SDI or IP infrastructures – or indeed hybrid approaches utilising both. This panel discussion discussed the imperatives behind this dramatic technological change, the challenges that it presents, and the probable roadmap for the next few years. There will also be analysis of current industry initiatives such as AIMS and the ways in which these can help smooth the transition.

This Panel was part of the Broadcast Innovation Day hold by Broadcast Solutions GmbH.
Participants:
Laurent Petit, VP Products, EVS
Simon Reed, Managing Director, Evertz UK
Thomas Riedel, CEO, RIEDEL Communications GmbH & Co. KG
Phil Myers, Former IP Product Manager, Grass Valley (formerly Snell Advanced Media (SAM))
Moderation: David Davies, Managing Editor, SVG Europe

Video: The Quest for Low-Latency Live Video

A great discussion from Streaming Media East discussing the battle to achieve Low-Latency Live Video by speakers from BAMTECH, Limelight and Red5Pro.In this session, learn about the pros and cons of various technologies on both the contribution and delivery side of lowlatency streaming, including small chunk size HLS/DASH, WebRTC, WebSockets, QUIC, SRT, and CMAF:

  • What does ‘Low Latency’ mean? Realtime? Are Cable & TV low-latency?
  • How do you synchronise OTT with Data and TV
  • Where is latency introduced? Which buffers have the biggest impact?
  • How can you fight rebuffing and which metric is the most useful?
  • Pros and Cons of WebRTC
  • How to stream 4K/VR?
  • Plus Q&A

Speakers
Jason Hofmann, VP of Architecture, Limelight Networks
