Webinar: Advanced Encoding & Transcoding with the Experts

Thursday 27th September 2018, 19:00 BST / 11am PT / 2pm ET

Encoding and transcoding are at the heart of every video service and solution, and the codec and format landscape has never been more crowded. Publishers are wringing the most efficiency out of H.264 while making the move to HEVC/H.265 and AV1—and keeping an eye on other proprietary codecs. On top of all that are considerations like video optimization, bitrate ladders, and per-title encoding.

Join this expert panel as they discuss the latest in encoding and transcoding, including the following:

  • The state of the art in encoding efficiency in 2018
  • How per-title encoding and machine learning can increase quality and decrease delivery costs
  • How to build flexible and cost-effective encoding solution
  • The latest developments in video encoding platforms and infrastructure
  • The benefits of contribution to distribution encoding and transcoding
  • The next big advances in encoding and transcoding, including AV1

Webinar: Downloading and the Future of Video Consumption

Tuesday September 25th 2018, 18:00 BST / 10AM PT / 1PM ET

Continuing the Streaming Video Alliance’s great webinar series, Jason Thibeault is back to discuss the consumer demand to download video and how to implement it. Joining Jason to share his experience and opinions is Joshua Pressnell, CTO of Penthera.

One thing is clear about consumer behavior when it comes to watching video-on-demand: people want to watch it whenever and wherever they want. Unfortunately, especially as more consumers gravitate towards mobile devices on inconsistent Wi-Fi and cellular networks, achieving a high-quality experience is fraught with difficulties. Enter download-to-go. This functionality, pioneered by Netflix and Amazon, allows consumers to download content to their phones for off-line viewing, ensuring the highest quality viewing experience without having to worry about spotty network coverage. But how do you implement this solution? Is there a way this solution can be applied to connected storage in the home?

In this discussion, you’ll learn about the intricacies involved in implementing download-to-go functionality, how the feature is evolving to potentially make use of in-home storage, and many of the challenges associated with providing this kind of service to subscribers.

Video: How BBC Northern Ireland Turned Decades Of Content Into A Secure, Accessible Petascale Archive

BBC Northern Ireland produces a complete schedule of news and current affairs programming that it distributes over two television channels, two radio stations, and multiple online platforms.

BBC NI also delivers content from other BBC production centers to Northern Ireland audiences. In addition, its facilities also serve as a central digital archive for the Rewind Projects, hosting thousands of hours of existing content from all of the BBC’s different national sites.

To meet their challenge of storing, protecting, and making the content available for reuse, they turned to a workflow management solution from Cinegy built on the Quantum StorNext storage platform.

Attend this webinar and learn more about key elements of the BBC NI solution:

• Unified asset management environment spans multiple, discrete storage tiers for storing video and audio essences together with metadata

• Teams of users and applications in all areas have fast, simultaneous access to all media content on disk and tape

• Automated movement of data between disk and tape tiers for backup and archive

• High-speed, multi-stream transcoding delivers content quickly for accelerated production because data is visible on any computer

• Dual-redundant systems supports around-the-clock operations and provides back-end storage support to ensure DR protection

• A scalable solution that can grow as storage demands increase in the future
