Video: Best Practices for Advanced Software Encoder Evaluations

Streaming Media East brings together Beamr, Netflix BAMTECH Media and SSIMWAVE to discuss the best ways to evaluate software encoders and we see there is much overlap with hardware encoder evaluation, too.

The panel gets into detail covering:

  • Test Design
  • Choosing source sequences
  • Rate Control Modes
  • Bit Rate or Quality Target Levls
  • Offline (VOD) vs Live (Linear)
  • Discrete vs. Multi-resolution/Bitrate
  • Subjective vs. objective measurements
  • Encoding Efficiency vs Performance
  • Video vs Still frames
  • PSNR Tuning
  • Evaluation at Encode Resolution Vs Display Resolution

Video: The Promise of 5G

The UK’s largest mobile network EE just announced its plan to launch 5G across 16 cities during 2019 and switching on the next-generation network in the busiest locations so it’s clear that 5G is arriving. That’s why it’s all the more important to put the promise of 5G into perspective with regards to broadcasting.

IBC 365 brings together Richard Mills from the Sky VR studios and Claire Harvey from Red Bee to discuss this with Mark Smith.

The discussion touches on the following:
• What are the real benefits
• What applications will drive the take-up of 5G?
• Will it help connectivity at a live event where bandwidth is currently constrained?
• How can broadcasters develop trust in 5G?
• Applying 5G to wildlife filming
• Network Revenue Sharing

Webinar: Control and Monitoring in an IP Infrastructure

Date: Monday 19th November 2018, 08:00 GMT and again at 16:00 GMT

Axon’s back with their 5th webinar in the Broadcast IP 101 series. Previously they have covered preparing for IP, the basics, Transport Formats and uncompressed vs compressed video. Now they are back to talk about control and monitoring.

The well-known 2022 and 2110 standards define transportation of video (and other essences). Like SDI-related standards, they don’t describe how to control the path of signals or monitor them. Unlike SDI, however, we expect to know what’s plugged in to our networks (AKA discovery) and then to control the data flow. There are proprietary and open specifications for doing this, including AMWA IS-04, IS-05 and IS-06 which deal with discovery, control and connection management.

In this webinar, CTO Peter Schut describes the lay of the land and how you can implement control and monitoring in an IP infrastructure.

The webinar happens twice. Once at 08:00 GMT (Midnight PT) and once at 16:00 GMT (11am ET).
